Host a Down-Home Texas Backyard Party

Share to Social

Grab your boots and fire up the grill! We’re throwin’ a good ol’ down-home Texas backyard party without any fancy trimmings. In this post you’ll get all of the ideas you need to make that casual backyard party a success!

Ready to host a casual backyard event, but don’t know where to begin? We’ve got you covered.

Outdoor entertaining doesn’t have to be fancy. In fact, folks will feel a lot more comfortable if you do things the scaled-back way. We’re all about simple here at Backyard Texas Grill.

Here are some suggestions for an amazing Texas-inspired good time in your own backyard.

Send the Invitation

There’s need for formality when you’re throwing a down-home backyard party. Send them a text or a Facebook message.

It’s all about practicality. If you set up one of those Facebook groups for your party, don’t be surprised if a few folks overlook it. Just give them a nudge so they don’t feel left out after-the-fact.

Suggestions for How to Word your Invitation

Wondering how to word the invitation? No worries! We got you covered. Start with something fun and simple like this:

Dust off yer lawn chairs, grab yer favorite slab of meat, and let’s get this shindig started! Here’s what we’ve got in store for y’all…”

Okay, okay. . .so it doesn’t have to be that down-home. But you get the idea. Make sure they know this isn’t a fancy event.

Delicious Down-Home Cooking

If you let folks know you’ll be grilling, they’ll drop everything to spend time with you. Say something like this. . .

“Our own personal grillmaster’s gonna be smoking up some lip-smackin’ BBQ ribs, beef brisket, burgers, and all the fixins. BYOM (bring your own meat) if you’ve got a hankerin’ for something else.”

(This is pretty common at a Texas BBQ. Folks often show up with their own meat to throw on the grill.)

The Sides are on You

“Don’t forget to bring a side dish to share—potluck style, y’all! Chips ‘n dips are a must. As for the rest? Well, whatever you like: potatoes, pasta, rice, or leftovers from the back of your fridge: it’s your choice.”

Come Thirsty!

Sweet tea, sodas, lemonade, and adult beverages: We’re already filling the cooler with your favorites. Bring your own cooler if you like. Just make sure it’s stocked before you get here.”

Music & Games

“Get your competitive spirit ready for some down-home games like cornhole, horseshoes, or Bocce ball.”

Bonfire & Fireworks, Y’all!

“A party wouldn’t be a party without a bonfire. When the sun goes down, we plan to light up the night with a giant bonfire and some backyard fireworks that’ll make your cranky neighbor put up a nasty post on Facebook. (Hey, he’s just jealous because we didn’t invite him!)”

Best Dressed Contest (optional)

“This event will offer the perfect opportunity to show off your best jeans, button-ups, boots, and hats! The grand prize? Braggin’ rights, of course!”

Kid-Friendly Zone

“Don’t you dare leave those kids with a sitter, y’all. W’re all about the little ones here. Bring the kids and we’ll keep ’em entertained with a kiddie pool, fun games, sweet treats, and lots of room to run around and play. (They’ll have a great time, we promise!)”

BYOLawn Chair & Tables

“We’ll squeeze ’em in. The more, the merrier. Just make sure the chairs are in good working order and sturdy enough to hold your weight after you’ve eaten all that delicious food. As for tables: card tables, plastic Walmart tables. . .whatever you like. Just shove ’em in your pickup and bring ’em on.”

No Fancy Stuff!

“Leave your fancy clothes and city slicker attitudes at home. Ain’t nobody got time for all that. Just grab your cowboy hats, flannel shirts, and come with an empty belly. Like we said. . .nothing fancy.

Don’t forget to RSVP so we know how much meat to pick up at HEB. Can’t wait to see y’all there! #RedneckParty #YeehawParty #TexasBackyardBash #BackyardBBQ”

That’s it, Folks!

Before you know it, you’ll be lighting up the grill to entertain your family and friends. . .Texas style!
