Meet the Pit Master

Welcome to Backyard Texas Grill! I’m Zach Morrow, born and raised in Texas, and happiest when there’s smoke in the air and good food on the table. What started as a weekend hobby—experimenting with burgers and brisket on a hand-me-down grill—has grown into a lifelong passion for all things barbecue.

🔥 Real Experience, Real Smoke

I’m not a competition chef or classically trained pit master. I’m a backyard griller who learned by lighting fires, making mistakes, and feeding a lot of hungry friends. Over the years I’ve tested every method I could find—pellet, charcoal, offset, gas—and found one simple truth: great barbecue takes patience, practice, and plenty of heart.

🍖 From Backyard to Blog

Backyard Texas Grill began as a family project to share the meals that bring us together. Every recipe you see here has been cooked, tasted, and photographed in our own backyard—no test kitchens, no studio setups. Just honest food, good smoke, and a whole lot of Texas flavor.

👨‍👩‍👧 Family and Flavor

This site is a true family affair. My wife Randi and mother-in-law Janice (from Out of the Box Baking) keep things running smoothly—from recipe testing to photography to writing down my “a pinch of this, a dash of that” measurements. Together, we share the flavors and fun of Southern cooking with anyone who loves gathering around a grill.
