Classic campfire flavor without the campfire! These easy oven s’mores come together with just three ingredients and are perfect for movie nights, backyard parties, sleepovers, and feeding a crowd.

How I Ended Up Making S’Mores in the Oven

If you had asked me a week ago whether I’d ever make s’mores in the oven, I probably would have laughed. After all, s’mores belong around a campfire…right?

Well, not at my house.

Our neighborhood HOA doesn’t allow campfires, and fire pits are pretty rare around here. We don’t even have a fireplace. So when the grandkids come over for movie nights or sleepovers, traditional s’mores simply aren’t an option.

What’s a grandmother to do?

Like most people, I searched online for how to make s’mores in the oven. But instead of finding the simple recipe I had in mind, I kept running across s’mores bars made with graham cracker crusts and layers of chocolate and marshmallow. Those looked delicious, but I wasn’t looking for cookie bars. I wanted actual handheld s’mores—just without the fire.

So I decided to keep things as simple as possible. I lined a sheet pan with graham crackers, scattered milk chocolate chips over the top, added halved marshmallows, and let the oven do the work.

Friends…it worked beautifully.

In less than ten minutes I had more than thirty warm, gooey s’mores ready to serve.

Best of all? I didn’t have to buy several packages of chocolate bars. One inexpensive bag of chocolate chips covered the whole pan, making this version surprisingly budget-friendly, too.

I have a feeling these are going to become a regular tradition at my place.

You will find a full printable recipe card at the bottom of this post but here’s what you’re going to need to make S’Mores in the oven:

  • 1 box honey graham crackers
  • 1 (11–12 ounce) bag milk chocolate chips
  • 1 bag large marshmallows, cut in half

These come together so easily and quickly. Here’s how you’re going to do it:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Arrange approximately 30 graham cracker squares on a large baking sheet in a single layer. They should fit together snugly.

Sprinkle the milk chocolate chips evenly over every graham cracker, making sure each one gets plenty of chocolate.

Bake for 5 to 6 minutes, just until the marshmallows begin to soften and the chocolate starts melting.

Switch the oven to Broil.

Watch carefully! Every broiler is different. Mine took about 3 minutes, but you should begin watching after about 2 minutes. Remove the pan as soon as the marshmallows turn golden brown.

Now comes the fun part. It’s time to eat!

Three Ways to Serve Oven-Baked S’Mores:

Classic S’Mores

Top each baked graham cracker with a fresh graham cracker for the traditional campfire experience.

Double-Stuffed S’Mores

Instead of using a plain graham cracker on top, simply flip one baked s’more onto another baked s’more. You’ll end up with twice the chocolate and toasted marshmallow filling. Surprisingly, they hold together really well without all the filling squeezing out the sides.

Open-Faced S’Mores

Honestly? This became one of my favorite ways to enjoy them. Simply eat them exactly as they come off the pan, letting the toasted marshmallow and melted chocolate shine.

Tips for Success

Don’t walk away during the broiling step. Marshmallows can go from beautifully toasted to burned in a matter of seconds.

Chocolate chips are my favorite choice because they melt evenly across every graham cracker. They’re also much less expensive than buying multiple chocolate bars.

I was a little worried the graham crackers would over-bake or burn, but they stayed crisp while the chocolate melted perfectly.

Fun Variations

Once you’ve mastered the basic recipe, the possibilities are almost endless.

Nutella S’Mores: Spread a thin layer of Nutella on the top graham cracker before sandwiching everything together.

Turtle S’Mores: Sprinkle chopped toasted pecans over the chocolate chips before baking. Once the marshmallows are toasted, drizzle with caramel sauce and finish with a tiny pinch of flaky sea salt.

Peanut Butter Lover’s S’Mores: Add peanut butter chips along with the chocolate chips or spread peanut butter on the top graham cracker before serving.

Cookies & Cream S’Mores: Use white chocolate chips and sprinkle crushed Oreo cookies over the marshmallows before serving.

Cinnamon S’Mores: Use cinnamon graham crackers instead of honey grahams.

Storage and Reheating

If you have leftovers, simply cover the baking pan tightly with foil and store at room temperature for a day or two (if your kitchen stays cool) or refrigerate for longer storage.

To reheat a whole batch, remove the foil and warm them in a 350-degree oven for about 5 minutes, just until the chocolate softens again.

For one serving, microwave for 5 to 6 seconds. That’s usually all it takes to bring them right back to life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes! They’re definitely best warm from the oven, but they reheat beautifully.

Do the graham crackers burn?

No. I wondered the same thing before trying this recipe, but they stayed crisp without burning.

Why use chocolate chips instead of chocolate bars?

Chocolate chips melt more evenly, they’re less expensive, and they’re much faster to spread across the entire pan.

Can I use mini marshmallows?

You can, but I really prefer halved large marshmallows because they toast beautifully and cover each graham cracker more evenly.

How many s’mores does this make?

It depends on how you serve them! One pan makes about 30 open-faced s’mores. If you sandwich them with plain graham crackers, you’ll have about 30 traditional s’mores. If you make the double-stuffed version, you’ll end up with about 15 extra-thick s’mores.

Can I make these without a campfire?

Absolutely! That’s exactly why I created this recipe.
